Chapter 1

Anxiety pulsed through Alex and hung heavy in the humid New England summer air. As he pedaled behind Reid in the dark, the beam of the flashlight strapped to his friend’s bike bobbed like some strange drunken firefly, darting this way and that. The ripe funky smell of a skunk somewhere nearby wrinkled Alex’s nose. Hectic cries of cicadas in their nonstop buzzing played in his eardrums.

A Different Man

“Are you ready?” The Security Guard asked.

“Are you?” The Old Man replied with a lifted brow.

The Guard nodded.

“I’m gonna be hauling ass out there,” The Old Man stated. “You make sure you get everyone out the door as soon as I pull up. I’ll honk the horn. I don’t wanna be out there with God-knows-what with my thumb up my ass.”

“Hey! Language.” The Lady smacked The Old Man in the shoulder, then pointed to the Young Girl cowering in the corner.

“Will you guys keep it down?” the Businessman whispered, damn near louder than they were talking. “They’ll hear you.” Read More

Top 25 Horror Movies since 2010

It’s OCTOBER! (Duh) and with the new month comes a new top 10, a special top 10. My favorite horror movies of the last 10 years. 25 scary movies (I’ve seen more) of the past ten years, ranked from hella scary to just creepy (only a handful of these movies actually scared the sh*t out of me).

Now, I should say, this is not a list of the best movies that happen to be horror, nor my favorite, but this is a list (from 25 to 1) of the movies that I found to be the most frightening. Also,  I love horror movies, but I would never claim to be this all-knowing genius that you should come to for recommendations lol. I hate zombie flicks and not a fan of slasher movies like Halloween or Jason. So, yeah…

Enjoy, and stay tuned for a bonus list of the movies I haven’t seen (but intend to), for those of you who are gonna be “what about-ing” by the time I get to number 1.

Wow (I’m doing too much with the parentheses) lol.  Read More

Rinse, Revenge & Repeat

To whom it may concern,

My name is Ashley Kirk and my mother killed me.
I guess it began when Jordan passed. Mom and Will had date night and I had to babysit. I was twelve, he was four. Wasn’t that hard to watch him, and it wasn’t the first time. But it was the last.
I had a pizza in the oven for us, and I went down to check on it so I wouldn’t burn the house down, but when I returned, Jordan had drowned.
I hadn’t spoken a word since, and that’s when she started to hate me.
Six months later, we’re here. In this dump hole in the middle of nowhere, and I swear to God, this place has changed her. She was already a dick towards me, but now she is evil. That is not my mother. I mean, she always blamed me for Jordan. Never said it, but I heard it in her tone, saw it in her eyes, everyday for six months. But this……. THIS! If this is really my mom. I guess this is her revenge.
So, this is my plea.
If anyone ever gets this, tell my mother that I am sorry for Jordan, and that I forgive her for doing this. Read More

Tiffany

Hey, guys. Here’s a short story I did for a 1k word Halloween challenge back in 2012. I touched it up a bit, but this is one of my favorites. Enjoy. 🙂

Once upon a bumpy road, there was a van swallowed by darkness. For thirty miles, there was nothing but trees; old trees, big trees, and leaves falling on the windshield like rain. This drive home from work was not new to Tiffany. The excursion in the dead of night, in the middle of wherever, did not scare her. She’d even adapted to the haunting of her family; the faint cries from her child in the backseat, the heavy breathing of her husband next to her, even the huffing of their dog. It’d been two years since that car accident and she was just coming out of her shell, mentally. Read More
